Along its northern slopes there are many [[alluvial fan]]s formed by the rivers streaming from the Balkan Mountains. The slopes are build up of [[granite]], [[Paleogene]] [[clay]]s, [[gneiss]], [[sandstone]] and [[Conglomerate (geology)|conglomerates]] and are subject to active erosion.
