Raghuvanshi (or Raghvi) is a Hindu caste primarily settled in the Hoshangabad, Chhindwara, Betul, and Nagpur districts of Central Province. They are descended from a band of Raghuvanshi Rajputs of Northern India, which is said to have migrated to the Central province.

History
This small group of Raghuvanshis is said to have migrated to Hoshangabad from Northern India, and from Hoshangabad, they spread to Chindwara, Betul, and Nagpur districts. They are Rajputs of impure descent and have now developed into a caste with various exogamous sections. They are considered inferior in status compared to the Raghuvanshi Rajputs of North India, who are pure-blooded Rajputs. The Raghuvanshis of the Central province are obviously of impure blood as they marry among themselves, which a pure Rajput would not do, of course, and this led to their development into a caste. However, when they become wealthy and influential, they assume the sacred thread, stop all familiarity with Gujars and Kirars (with whom they are accustomed to smoke the huqqa and to take water), and profess to be very high-caste Rajputs indeed." Sir C. Elliott states, "They are a queer class, all professing to be Rajputs from Ayodhya, though on cross-examination they are obliged to confess that they did not come here straight from Ayodhya but stopped in Bundelkhand and the Gwalior territory by the way.
