== Education and career ==
Lund received his [[Bachelor of Arts|B.A.]] [[Latin honors|''magna cum laude'']] from [[St. John's College (Annapolis/Santa Fe)]] in [[Annapolis, Maryland]] in 1974. He then received his [[Master of Arts|M.A.]] in [[philosophy]] from the [[Catholic University of America]] in 1978, followed by two degrees in [[political science]] from [[Harvard University]]: an A.M. in 1979 and a [[Doctor of Philosophy|Ph.D.]] in 1981. In 1985, he received his [[Juris Doctor]] ''cum laude'' from the [[University of Chicago Law School]], where he was a member of the [[Order of the Coif]] as well as executive editor of the ''[[University of Chicago Law Review]].'' He went on to clerk for Judge [[Patrick Higginbotham]] on the [[United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit]] and for Justice [[Sandra Day O'Connor]] of the [[Supreme Court of the United States]].
