== Biography ==
Chang was born in [[Taixing|Taixing County]] (now Taixing), [[Jiangsu]], on 6 July 1931, to Chang Yisheng ({{zh|s=常遗生|labels=no}}), and Zhu Zhuoyuan ({{zh|s=朱茁沅|labels=no}}), both were teachers.<ref name="ra">{{cite news |url=https://new.qq.com/rain/a/20240427A0729000 |script-title=zh:常印佛院士逝世? |work=qq.com |date= |access-date=28 April 2024 |language=zh}}</ref><ref name="rb">{{cite news |author1=Wang Shen ({{lang|zh|王申}})|author2=Lu Lingfeng ({{lang|zh|吕凌峰}}) |url=https://paper.sciencenet.cn/htmlnews/2014/5/295565.shtm |script-title=zh:常印佛院士:野外走出的地质学家 |work=qq.com |date=30 May 2024 |access-date=28 April 2024 |language=zh}}</ref> He attended Taixing County Private Yanling Middle School, Taixing County Middle School, Zhenjiang High School, and the Affiliated High School of Nanjing Central University.<ref name="rb"/> In 1949, he was admitted to [[Tsinghua University]], where he majored in [[geology]].<ref name="rb"/>

In 2002, the [[University of Science and Technology of China]] recruited him as Dean of the School of Earth and Space Sciences.

Chang married Wang Deyong ({{zh|s=汪德镛|labels=no}}) on 8 June 1957, who bore him a son and two daughters.
