Adelaide was born on 13 August 1792 at [[Meiningen]], [[Thuringia]], [[Germany]], the eldest child of [[Georg I, Duke of Saxe-Meiningen]] and [[Luise Eleonore of Hohenlohe-Langenburg|Luise Eleonore]], daughter of [[Christian Albrecht, Prince of Hohenlohe-Langenburg]].
