It's one of the most arbitrary eurocentric neologisms of the 20th century, rarely has a positive connotation, and comes with numerous generalisations. I've been gently steering towards commonly accepted continental categorisations where that seems appropriate instead of these arbitrary regions and subregions that everyone seems to have a home-made arbitrary definition for.
