== Awards process ==

Nominees are selected for the Heavy Music Awards from a panel of people involved in the heavy [[music industry]], who are invited to list their top three albums for any given category, given it has been released in the previous year (between 1 January and 31 December) and fits specific criteria.<ref name=":14" /> The HMA has no say in selecting its finalists.<ref name=":14" /><ref>{{Cite web |title=About |url=https://www.heavymusicawards.com/about |access-date=2024-04-26 |website=Heavy Music Awards |language=en-US}}</ref> The top 7 artists in each category are then listed as finalists that are voted on by the general public on the Heavy Music Awards website.<ref name=":14" /> Its trophies are manufactured by Gaudio Awards.<ref>{{Cite web |title=Rocking Out at the Heavy Music Awards |url=https://gaudio.co.uk/news/rocking-out-at-the-heavy-music-awards/ |access-date=2024-04-27 |website=Gaudio Awards |language=en-GB}}</ref>

The Heavy Music Awards 2017 had an initial panel size of 300+ personnel,<ref>{{Cite web |date=2017-04-20 |title=The Moshville Times - Heavy Music Awards – judging panel blasts past 300 |url=https://www.moshville.co.uk/news/2017/04/heavy-music-awards-judging-panel-blasts-past-300/ |access-date=2024-04-27 |website=The Moshville Times |language=en-GB}}</ref> which has been expanded upon with its subsequent editions.
