The feudal earldom of Errol is an ancient noble feudal title originating in Perthshire, Scotland. Errol is centred on the lands surrounding the village of Errol near the Firth of Tay in Perthshire.

The earliest record of a barony at Errol dates to around 1180 when King David I granted the lands to William de Haya, establishing the powerful De Hay of Errol family. The de Hayas held the barony and became influential Scottish nobles throughout the Middle Ages.

In 1452, Sir William Hay of Errol was raised to the peerage as the 1st Earl of Erroll for his family's long service to the Scottish Crown. The Earldom of Erroll became a feudal title when he was also granted the territorial Earldom of Errol, centred on the family's lands.

Subsequent Earls of Errol played prominent roles in Scottish affairs. The family supported both the Crown and the Jacobite cause at different times. The 9th Earl led a Catholic revolt in the 1590s. Several Earls served as the chiefly role of Lord High Constable of Scotland.

In the early 20th century, the de Hay family sold parts of their estate, including the feudal Earldom title. It was purchased by Sir John Reeves Ellerman, a wealthy shipowner. Following the Abolition of Feudal Tenure Act 2000, the feudal title was separated from any attached lands.

Under Scots law, the dignity and noble title of Earl of Errol continues to exist and is current owned by David Willien, although unattached to lands. The Lord Lyon King of Arms recognises the feudal dignity and any new holder would be able to apply to the Lyon Court for a coat of arms.

The Earldom of Errol remains one of the oldest and most prestigious noble titles originating in Scotland. Though the lands have passed to others, the ancient feudal title endures as a symbol of the illustrious Errol family and their heritage.
